Softball Opens Season With Sweep of TWU

DENTON, Texas – Southeastern collected 19 hits on the day and saw its pitching staff combine to allow one run on its way to a double-header sweep of Texas Woman's on Saturday afternoon, taking game one 11-0 in six innings before winning the nightcap 6-1.
 
The sweep lifts SE to 2-0 to start the year heading into the UT Tyler Irwin Invitational where in will play four games over Feb. 12-13 between Commerce, Texas and Tyler, Texas.
 
Amberlynn Walsworth got the start in game one and tossed 4.0 innings to pick up the win, allowing no runs on two hits with three strikeouts.
 
Ashley Hedrick would come on in relief and toss the final 2.0 innings and scatter two hits without allowing a run.
 
Kyia Monahwee and Peyton Streetman each collected a pair of hits, while six others picked up one hit.
 
Monahwee also finished the contest with three RBI, while Kamarie Wallace drove in two.
 
Kady Fryrear, Streetman, Gracie Ore, Tena Spooltra, and Jaleigh Durst each added an RBI as well.
 
SE jumped out early in game one, with Fryrear leading off and Cheyenne Mahy singling two batter later.
 
Fryrear would score on a Wallace RBI groundout before Monahwee singled home Mahy to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Ore would tack on a third run with an RBI single to end the inning and take a 3-0 lead.
 
The Storm tacked on a run in the fourth when Durst doubled-home a pinch-running Tena Spoolstra who was running for Alexis Lambert who singled.
 
SE picked up three more runs in the top of the fifth as Wallace doubled home Streetman, followed by an RBI groundout by Monahwee before stretching the lead to 7-0 when Wallace scored on an error.
 
The Storm picked up the offense again in the sixth inning, with Lambert coming home on a Spoolstra bunt single and eventually coming home on an error for a 9-0 lead.
 
A batter later Streetman singled home Fryrear to push the lead to 10-0.
 
Monahwee would close out the Storm scoring in the sixth with an RBI infield single to plate Streetman and take an 11-0 lead which would trigger the run-rule in six innings.
 
In game two, Fryrear and Mahy each had a pair of hits, while five others had one each.
 
Durst would pace the club with three RBI in the game, while Fryrear drove in a pair.
 
Mahy went the distance in the circle to collect the win, tossing 7.0 innings and allowing a run on four hits with five strikeouts.
 
In the nightcap, the Storm blew up in the second inning, with Monahwee and Ore leading off with singles before a Durst triple drove them both hoe for a 2-0 lead.
 
Two batters later with one out and runners on the corners, Fryrear connected on a two-run double to score Bailey Beard and Courtney Crane before stealing home herself to push the SE lead to 5-0.
 
TWU would get a run back in the fifth on an RBI double, but SE had an answer for it in the top of the sixth as Durst drove in Monahwee on a sac fly for a 6-1 lead which would hold up for the final score.
