SE Sweeps Friday Twinbill Over NWOSU

DURANT, Okla. – Amberlyn Walsworth and Cheyenne Mahy starred in the circle on both ends of Friday's doubleheader sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State, taking game one 5-2 before picking up an 8-0 run-rule, shutout victory in game two at the Southeastern Softball Field.

The wins lift the Savage Storm to 9-1 on the season and 5-1 in Great American Conference play heading into the final game of the series slated for Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

Walsworth went the distance in the opener to improve to 4-0 on the season after allowing a pair of runs on eight hits while striking out six.

Kyia Monahwee collected a pair of hits and scored twice while stealing a pair of bases.

Jaleigh Durst drove in three runs on one hit, while Mahy added an RBI on a hit.

Augusta Duty and Peyton Streetman each added hits, while Gracie Ore drove in a run.

The Rangers took the early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the second inning, but the Storm had an answer in the bottom half when Monahwee scored on a Durst sac fly.

An inning later SE would take a 2-1 lead on a Mahy solo homer.

After a pair of scoreless innings by both teams, Ore would plate Monahwee on a fielder's choice as she beat a throw to the plate for 3-1 lead.

One batter later Durst would connect on a two-run homer to stretch the lead to 5-1.

NWOSU would tack on a run in the top of the seventh, but the Storm cut off any rally and held on for a 5-2 win.

In game two, Mahy got the start and improved to 3-0 and was one out shy of a complete game, scattering five hits over 4.2 innings of work with five strikeouts.

Ashley Hedrick would record the final out of the game, facing just one batter.

Kady Fryrear put up a pair of hits and two RBI, while Bailey Beard added two hits and drove in one.

Mahy, Kamarie Wallace, Monahwee, Streetman and Alexis Lambert each had a hit, while Streetman drove in a pair of runs with Mahy, Wallace, Lambert and Beard adding an RBI.

SE wasted little time getting on the board as a Wallace single would drive in a pinch-running Brooklyn Field in the bottom of the first, and two batters later Streetman would single home Mahy and Wallace for a 3-0 lead.

Lambert would get the Storm back on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single to score Streetman.

Beard would follow a batter late with an RBI single, setting the stage for a two-run double by Fryrear to break the lead open to 7-0.

A Mahy sac fly later in the inning would drive in a pinch-running Taylor Battiest to make the lead 8-0.

NWOSU would get a pair of runners on in the top of the fifth, but Hedrick would come on with two outs and coax a fly out to end the game with an 8-0 run-rule victory.
