DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern scored in all but the first inning with
Alexis Lambert bringing the game to an early end with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to trigger the run-rule in a 10-1 victory in five innings, finishing off the series sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday morning at the Southeastern Softball Field.
Â
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 10-1 on the year and 6-1 in Great American Conference play heading into a Monday afternoon single game against No. 18 Texas A&M-Kingsville at 2 p.m. at the Southeastern Softball Field.
Â
Kyia Monahwee,
Peyton Streetman, and
Bailey Beard each picked up a pair of hits, while
Kady Fryrear,
Taylor Battiest, Lambert,
Kamarie Wallace, and
Lauren White each had one.
Â
Lambert's hit went for a two-run homer to end the contest, while Beard's was a two-run triple which first gave the Storm the lead.
Â
Both Beard and Lambert finished with two RBI, while Fryrear, Battiest,
Augusta Duty, Monahwee, Wallace, and Streetman each drove in one.
Â
SE stole four bases on the day, with Beard swiping two, and finished the series with 16 steals over three games as a team.
Â
In the circle,
Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and collected her second win of the series after allowing a run on three hits with three strikeouts over 4.0 innings. She improves to 5-0 on the season.
Â
Cheyenne Mahy would toss the final inning without giving up a hit.
Â
NWOSU took control out of the gate with a leadoff homer in the top of the first inning and for the first time in the series would carry a lead from one inning to the next.
Â
That was as far as it would go however as Beard's two-out triple in the bottom of the second would score
Karissa Marshall and Streetman to take a 2-1 lead.
Â
It stretched to 3-1 a batter later when Fryrear connected on a hotshot that ricocheted off the pitcher's foot and allowed Beard to score.
Â
In the third a Wallace single would score Monahwee and Wallace would score a batter later when Streetman doubled to left center, extending the lead to 5-1.
Â
Duty would drive in Beard in the fourth inning on a squeeze bunt and a Monahwee RBI single two batters later would score Lambert who was pinch-running for Duty, pushing the edge to 7-1.
Â
White would lead off the inning with a pinch-hit single, moving around to third on back-to-back groundouts.
Â
She would then come home on a Battiest pinch-hit single to left center, pushing the lead to 8-1.
Â
Lambert, who remained in the game after pinch-running, would come to the plate and connect on a two=-run homer, her first of the season, and trigger the run rule in a 10-1 win.
