DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern's
Amberlyn Walsworth scattered four hits and struck out five on her way to a 1-0 complete-game shutout victory over Arkansas-Monticello in the series opener on Friday afternoon at the Southeastern Softball Field.
Â
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 11-2 overall on the season and 7-1 in Great American Conference play, with the final two games of the series slated for a noon doubleheader on Saturday back at the Southeastern Softball Field.
Â
Walsworth faced 27 batters over 7.0 innings pitched, and posted her five strikeouts across from no walks. The win lifts her to 6-0 on the season.
Â
Offensively,
Kady Fryrear,
Kyia Monahwee,
Kamarie Wallace,
Peyton Streetman, and
Bailey Beard each collected a hit.
Â
Beard drove in the lone run of the game.
Â
UAM opened the game by getting a runner to third with one out, but a Walsworth strikeout and a lineout to
Cheyenne Mahy at second base would end the inning with no runs.
Â
Fryrear led off the bottom of the first with a single and moved to second on an
Augusta Duty sac bunt.
Â
Mahy was hit by a pitch and Monahwee reached on a fielder's choice which saw Fryrear out at third.
Â
Wallace followed with an infield single to load the bases and Streetman would plate Mahy on a fielder's choice with Mahy beating the toss to the plate for the 1-0 lead.
Â
That is where it would stay, with UAM threatening in the fifth, pushing runners to second and third with no outs before retiring the next three hitters to keep the Cotton Blossoms off the board.
