SE Takes Rubber-Match at SAU, 3-1

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Southeastern closed out its weekend series with No. 9 Southern Arkansas by taking the rubber match 3-1 to come away with a series victory on Saturday afternoon in Magnolia, Ark.
 
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 19-3 overall on the season and 11-2 in Great American Conference play and hold onto first place in the league standings.
 
Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and picked up her ninth win of the season after tossing 6.1 innings and allowing a run on seven hits.
 
Cheyenne Mahy would come on in relief, tossing the final two-third of an inning, allowing a hit, but earning her first save of the season.
 
Kady Fryrear turned in a pair of hits to lead the offense, while Mahy, Peyton Streetman, and Jaleigh Durst each had one.
 
Mahy made the most of her one hit, connecting on a two-run homer, while Augusta Duty would rive in the other run.
 
SAU jumped in front first with a run in the bottom of the first inning on a sac fly.
 
SE struck back in the top of the third as Bailey Beard led off with a walk and Fryrear followed with a single, and both runners moved up followed a Mulerider error.
 
Duty would follow with a squeeze bunt that would score Beard to tie the game at 1-1.
 
A batter later Mahy would break the tie with a two-run homer to take a 3-1 lead.
 
SAU would push runners to third in the fourth and again in the seventh, but the Storm would respond by holding them scoreless in both opportunities and holding on for the 3-1 victory.
