SE Finishes Off Series Sweep of OBU

DURANT, Okla. – Cheyenne Mahy threw five perfect innings in relief and Karissa Marshall laid down a walk-off squeeze bunt in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Southeastern to a 3-2 win over Ouachita Baptist in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at the Southeastern Softball Field.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 30-5 on the year and 20-4 in Great American Conference play.  SE is one of just four schools who have reached the 30-win plateau at this point in the season.

Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and tossed 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts in a no decision.

Mahy would come on in relief to start the fourth inning and proceed to retire 15-straight batters over the next five innings, including striking out the side in the top of the eighth inning on her way to the victory which lifted her record to 13-2 on the year.

At the plate, Mahy would collect a pair of hits, as would Peyton Streetman.

Gracie Ore, Kady Fryrear, Kyia Monahwee, and Kamarie Wallace each had one hit.

Wallace drove in a pair with a double, while Marshall added an RBI as well.

OBU took the lead with a solo homer in the second inning and added to it with another solo shot in the third to take a 2-0 lead.

That held up until the bottom of the sixth inning when Fryrear and Monahwee posted back-to-back singles to open the inning before Wallace doubled home both to knot the game at 2-2.

It would hover there through the seventh inning, forcing extra innings, where Mahy would strike out the side in the top half of the eighth.

Streetman would connect on a one-out single in the bottom half of the inning. She would steal second and move to third when the ball got away from the Tiger shortstop.

On the very next pitch Marshall would get down a bunt up the third base line, with Streetman racing to the plate the OBU third baseman fielded the ball and just missed the tag as Streetman came home for the game-winning run.
