Monahwee, Wallace Lift SE to Series-Opening Win

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Kyia Monahwee and Kamarie Wallace connected on back-to-back homers in the top of the seventh inning to lift Southeastern to a 2-1 victory over Henderson State in the series opener in Arkadelphia, Ark., on Saturday afternoon.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 31-5 overall on the year and 21-4 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series slated for a noon doubleheader on Sunday.

SE picks up its fourth-straight win and its third in-a-row by a one-run margin.

Monahwee, Wallace, Peyton Streetman, Jaleigh Durst and Karissa Marshall each collected a hit.

In addition to the solo homers by Monahwee and Wallace, Streetman picked up a triple, her first of the season.

Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and tossed 5.0 innings, allowing a run on four hits with six strikeouts while taking a no decision.

Cheyenne Mahy came on in relief and tossed 2.0 innings, scattering a pair of hits and no runs while facing eight batters and earning her 14th win of the year.

SE threatened first after Streetman's triple but she was thrown out at the plat after a pickoff to keep the game scoreless in the top of the fifth.

HSU would crack the scoreboard first with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to take a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Monahwee would tie the game with a one-out solo shot which was immediately followed up by Wallace's go-ahead homer which held up to be the game-winner in a 2-1 victory.
