Softball Takes Series at HSU with Sunday Split

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southeastern opened the day with a 9-0 run-rule win over Henderson State to seal a series victory on the road at Arkadelphia, Ark., but missed out on the sweep with a 6-0 loss in the finale.
 
The Sunday split improves the Savage Storm to 32-6 overall on the season and 22-5 in Great American Conference play.
 
Cheyenne Mahy picked up her 15th win of the year in game one after putting together a two-hit shutout performance with four hits over five innings.
 
Gracie Ore posted a pair of hits, while Kady Fryrear, Cheyenne Mahy, Kamarie Wallace, Peyton Streetman, Jaleigh Durst, Alexis Lambert, and Bailey Beard each had one apiece.
 
Mahy would drive in three runs on her home run, while Ore added two RBI as did Durst. Kyia Monahwee drove in one.
 
In the opener the teams were scoreless through two before the Storm offense exploded in the top of the third.
 
SE loaded the bases as the first three hitters each singled before Ore connected on a two-run double to open scoring.
 
Two batters later Monahwee would tack on a run with a sac fly that plated Fryrear from third.
 
After an error would leave runners at second and third, a second error allowed Streetman to reach and plated Ore for a 4-0 lead.
 
A batter later Durst would add a double to left that drove in Wallace and Streetman for a 6-0 lead.
 
SE added on in the third as Bailey Beard led off with a walk and two batters later Ore would single to left, setting the stage for Mahy who connected on a three-run home to take a 9-0 lead which would hold up as the final score in a five-inning run-rule win.
 
In the series finale, Monahwee and Streetman each collected a pair of hits, While Fryrear, Durst, and Beard each added one.
 
Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and tossed a complete game, picking up the loss after allowing six runs, only one of them earned, on eight hits in six innings pitched.
 
The Reddies opened scoring with five runs in the second inning and added one in the sixth and SE was never able to find an answer offensively in the 6-0 loss.
