SE Suffers First GAC Loss at SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern was unable to bounce back from a slow start at Southwestern Oklahoma State, suffering its first Great American Conference loss of the season on Tuesday night, 3-0, in Weatherford, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in league play heading into the home conference opener on Thursday night at 7 p.m. against Southern Nazarene in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.

SE was led on Tuesday by Skylor Lewis who posted 10 kills, while Caroline Griffith added seven kills in the effort.

Ruthie Forson posted 19 assists in the offensive effort, while adding four kills and an ace while adding 10 digs on defense.

Lewis also led the defense with 11 digs on the night, with Grace Shehadeh and Forson right behind with 10 digs each.

Jadyn James led the net defense with a pair of blocks.

After paying the opening set even through the early points, SWOSU would stretch a 6-5 lead into a 14-8 lead and pull away with set one in a 25-13 final.

The teams battled back and forth in the second set, with a Storm 6-0 run giving SE a 16-15 lead. However, the Bulldogs would answer with the next seven points to regain the lead and ultimately take set two 25-20.

Southeastern would again take a lead, this time using a run to mount a 19-14 lead on the strength of four Lewis kills in the set, but SWOSU would take 11 of the final 13 points to swipe the third set 25-21, taking the match 3-0.
