Monahwee, Durst Lift Storm to Win in Series Finale

DURANT, Okla. – Cheyenne Mahy tossed a complete game while Kyia Monahwee and Jaleigh Durst each homered as Southeastern closed out its three-game series with a 7-4 win over Harding on Monday afternoon at the Southeastern Softball Field.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 10-8 overall on the season and 1-2 in Great American Conference play, with the team heading back into action on March 1 with a non-conference doubleheader versus Texas A&M-Commerce beginning at 3 p.m. in Commerce, Texas.

Peyton Streetman, Gracie Ore, Kady Fryrear, Monahwee, and Bailey Beard each had two hits, while Mahy and Durst added one each.

Monahwee and Durst each connected on homers, while Mahy added a double.

Monahwee finished the day with three RBI, while Durst drove in two and Mahy added one.

In the circle, Mahy put together a complete-game performance, allowing four runs on six hits with four strikeouts on her way to the win.

HU took the early lead with a solo homer in the second inning, but the Storm got its answer in the third when Monahwee connected on a three-run homer to left to take a 3-1 lead.

The Bisons picked up another run in the top of the fourth on another solo shot, but Beard would come home on a throwing error by the catcher, followed immediately by an RBI double by Mahy to open up a 5-2 lead.

Durst's two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth extended the lead to 7-2.

HU would tack on two more runs in the sixth, but the Storm would hold off any rally for the 7-4 victory.
