Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Falls Twice vs. Ranked Foes

CONROE, Texas. – Southeastern squared off with a pair of nationally-ranked foes on Sunday afternoon, but was unable to pull off an upset, dropping game one to No. 2 Augustana, 7-2, before dropping an 8-5 decision against No. 18 Angelo State on Day two of the Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational in Conroe, Texas.

The losses drop the Savage Storm to 1-3 to open the season heading into a 9 a.m. matchup with No. 15 Oklahoma Christian on Monday morning before finishing the event with an 11 a.m. matchup against Texas Woman's.

Southeastern jumped out to an early lead on the second-ranked Vikings with Peyton Streetman scoring on an error following a Cheyenne Mahy hit and Mahy coming around to score on a Marilyn Alvarado single to right, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

The Storm would get bit by the big-inning bug in the top of the third, however, as Augustana would take advantage of an error and four hits to put up six runs and take a 6-2 lead midway through three.

AC would tack on another run in the fifth, and Southeastern was unable to bring in a run despite threatening with runners on first and third in the bottom of the seventh, leaving the final score at 7-2.

Streetman and Mahy each collected a pair of hits, while Alvarado added a hit and an RBI.

Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and went the distance, allowing seven runs, only one earned, on 11 hits with five strikeouts while tsking her first loss of the year.

In the second game of the day, Mahy led the Storm offense with three hits as the team finished with 12 combined.

Streetman was next in line with two hits, while seven others collected one hit apiece.

Mahy, Kamarie Wallace, Lauren White, and Alvarado each posted an RBI.

Mahy got the start versus ASU and tossed a complete game, allowing eight runs on 12 hits with seven strikeouts.

SE fell in a 5-0 hole versus the Rambelles by the midway point of the second inning before a Lauren White RBI single in the bottom half cut into the deficit.

ASU would add another run in the top of the fourth, and Mahy would answer with an RBI double to make the score 6-2.

The Belles would tack on another run in the top of the sixth, stretching the gap to 7-2.

ASU would add one more run in the top of the seventh, but Southeastern would get an RBI single by Wallace, followed by Fryrear scoring on a passed ball before Alvarado drew a bases-loaded RBI walk to get SE within an 8-5 margin, but that was where the rally would end.
