SE Holds Off Late Rally to Win Series Opener

ALVA, Okla. – Peyton Streetman and Cheyenne Mahy each drove in a pair of runs as Southeastern jumped out o a big lead and held on late for an 8-7 victory in its series opener over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon in Alva, Okla.
 
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 15-11 overall and 6-3 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series et for an 11 a.m. twinbill on Sunday.
 
Streetman and Mahy were joined by Kady Fryrear with each posting a pair of hits, while Alexis Lambert, Kamarie Wallace, Marilyn Alvarado, Gracie Ore, and Jaleigh Durst each added a hit.
 
Streetman and Mahy each had a pair of RBI, with Alvarado adding one.
 
Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and tossed 5.1 innings in picking up the win, allowing six runs, four of them earned, with four strikeouts.
 
Mahy added 1.2 innings of work and allowed a run on two hits with four strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched.
 
NWOSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a leadoff homer.
 
SE would even the score in the top of the second, cashing in a Fryrear leadoff double with a Wallace sac bunt and an Alvarado RBI bunt single to plate Fryrear and tie the game at 1-1.
 
Streetman would plate two more runs in the fifth inning with a triple that scored Bailey Beard and Jaleigh Durst to take a 3-1 lead.
 
Streetman would score a batter later as Lambert reached on an error, before Mahy drove in in Lambert with an RBI single, pushing the lead to 5-1.
 
Durst would add a run with a single that scored Wallace following an error, taking a 6-1 lead, but NWOSU would get one back in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 6-2.
 
Mahy would plate another run in the seventh with a sac fly to score Streetman for a 7-2 lead.
 
Lambert would close out SE's scoring by coming around when Alvarado reached on an error, pushing the lead to 8-2.
 
That last run would be key as the Rangers would load the bases before scoring one run on an HBP, leading to a grand slam that closed the Storm lead to 8-7 before Walsworth coaxed a flyout to end the game with an SE win.
