Mahy Perfect in Storm Sweep of ECU

ADA, Okla. – Cheyenne Mahy put her name in the record books with a perfect game in Southeastern's 4-0 series opening win over East Central, and added a second victory in relief in a 3-2 win in the nightcap on Tuesday Afternoon in Ada, Okla.
 
The sweep lifts the Savage Storm to 14-11 overall and 5-3 in Great American Conference play with a road trip to Northwestern Oklahoma State on March 12-13 next up on the schedule.
 
Mahy became the first Southeastern pitcher since Marjorie Johnson in 2009 to even record a no-hitter and the first since Christina Cearly in 2003 to toss a perfect game. It goes down as the fourth perfect game in program history, and the 17th no-hitter. It also becomes the seventh perfect game in GAC history and the first since the 2019 season.
 
She would record five strikeouts on the afternoon, coaxing 10 fly outs and six groundouts while tossing 70 total pitches.
 
At the plate, Alexis Lambert, Kady Fryrear, and Kamarie Wallace each collected two hits while Peyton Streetman, Marilyn Alvarado, and Jaleigh durst had one each.
 
Fryrear homered and added a double while and driving in a pair of runs, with Streetman and Gracie Ore accounting for an RBI each.
 
SE would cash in on an ECU error to get on the board in the second, with Wallace opening the inning by reaching on an error, coming around and scoring on an Ore RBI groundout.
 
A Fryrear solo homer in the fourth would double the lead to 2-0.
 
In the top of the seventh, Streetman would squeeze home durst to push the lead to 3-0, and three batters later Fryrear would double home Lambert to set the final at 4-0.
 
In the nightcap, SE got on the board with an RBI fielder's choice by Fryrear, followed by Wallace driving in Lambert on a groundout to take a 2-0 lead.
 
ECU would answer in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single to close the gap to 2-1, and the Tigers would knot the game at 2-2 with a sac fly in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Mahy would leadoff the top of the seventh inning with a triple and a batter later the Storm would cash it in with Fryrear driving her home on a sac fly to take a 3-2 lead which would hold up as the final.
 
Mahy's big day in the circle did not end after game one, as she would come on in relief in game two to toss three more perfect innings while striking out four to pick up the victory.
 
Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and took a no decision after tossing 4.0 innings and allowing two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.
 
Ore posted a 3-for-3 effort at the plate in game two, while Wallace added a pair of hits.
 
Lambert, Mahy, and Alvarado each picked up a hit, while Fryrear drove in a pair of runs and Wallace added an RBI of her own.
