ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southeastern twice stranded runners in scoring position but was unable to get its offense moving in a 4-0 loss in the series opener to Henderson State on Friday night.
Â
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 28-16 overall and 17-11 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Â
Matt Miles and
Bryce McDermott each collected a hit for SE, with McDermott's going for a double.
Â
Connor Priest got the start and took the loss after allowing three runs, two of them earned, on six hits with six strikeouts over 5.1 innings of work.
Â
Coby Langford came on in relief and tossed 1.1 innings without allowing a hit.
Â
Kenneth Klier followed and allowed a run on two hits in one third of an inning before
Beau Swimmer came on to finish the game without allowing a hit over an inning pitched with one strikeout.
Â
HSU would take advantage of two Storm errors in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead after one.
Â
The Reddies pushed the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third on an RBI single and saw that reach 3-0 with a homer in the fifth.
Â
Miles would break up the no-hitter in the seventh and McDermott would double in the eighth, but that was as much offense as the Storm would put together, with HSU adding a final run in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 4-0.
