Savage Storm Splits Doubleheader at ATU

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southeastern opened its final weekend of the regular season with a doubleheader split in a pair of pitcher's duals, picking up a 1-0 victory in game one over Arkansas Tech before falling in the nightcap 2-1 in Russellville, Ark.
 
The Savage Storm improve to 30-23 overall on the season and 19-13 in Great American Conference play with the regular season finale versus ATU set for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
 
In game one, Amberlyn Walsworth got the star and tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering a pair of hits over seven innings while striking out eight to pick up her 15th win of the season.
 
Jaleigh Durst and Gracie Ore each picked up a hit as both teams finished with two hits apiece.
 
Lauren White would pinch hit and supply the only RBI of the contest, driving in Durst who tripled to lead off the fifth inning, providing the game's lone run.
 
In the nightcap, Cheyenne Mahy got the start and tossed five innings in a no decision after allowing a run on four hits with four strikeouts.
 
Walsworth would come back and toss an inning and allowed a run on a hit with one strikeout in taking the loss.
 
Marilyn Alvarado picked up a pair of hits for the Storm on offense, while five others each collected one.
 
Ore was one of those with a hit while adding an RBI.
 
ATU got on the board in the bottom of the first with a run before the Storm answered in the second inning with an Ore RBI single to knot the game at 1-1.
 
It would remain even at 1-1 through the next four innings before the Golden Suns tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth which held up as the difference in a 2-1 final score.
