French Paces Massive Offensive Day in Sweep of SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Cameron French went 8-for-10 with 10 RBI over two games as the Southeastern offense lit up the scoreboard with a doubleheader sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State, taking game one 24-21 before picking up a 9-7 win in a darkness-shortened series finale on Saturday afternoon in Weatherford, Okla.
 
The sweep lifts the Savage Storm to 26-12 overall and 15-9 in Great American Conference play.
 
In the opener the teams combined for 45 runs, surpassing the previous conference record for combined runs by eight, while also breaking the record for combined hits by seven with 44 total hits.
 
French led the Storm by matching the school record for hits in a game with six while also matching the record for triples in a game with two. He also added a game-high eight RBI.
 
Matt Miles followed with five hits while driving in four runs and scoring five times.
 
Seth Morrow and Damon Burroughs each collected three hits, while Hayden Evans and Dylan Herd had two apiece.
 
Reid Rice and Bryce McDermott finished with one hit each.
 
Burroughs and French each tripled twice, while SE had five total triples to set the GAC record for tripkes in a game by a team.
 
Burroughs finished with three RBI, while Morrow and Evans plated two each.  Rice and Angel Ochoa drove in one run each.
 
Dylan Turner got the start and tossed three innings and was tagged for seven runs, five of them earned, on seven hits.
 
Jordan Compton and Coby Langford followed, tossing 1.2 and 1.1 inning, respectively, while Compton allowed three runs, two of them earned, on two hits, while Langford was tagged for five runs on five hits.
 
Kenneth Klier came on and picked up the win after tossing an inning and allowing three runs on four hits.
 
Jackson Sioson would come on and pick up his eighth save after allowing three runs, two earned, over two innings pitched.
 
Miles and French would put SE on the board in the top of the first inning with a pair of RBI singles, but SWOSU would answer with a two-run homer to tie the game at 2-2.
 
The Storm followed up in the fourth with RBI hits from Morrow and Miles before French connected on a three-run triple to push the lead to 7-2.
 
The Bulldogs would answer with six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-7 lead.
 
Southeastern regained the lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Morrow before Herd scored on an error to go in front 9-8.
 
Once again SWOSU would score in the bottom half of the fifth to retake the lead at 11-9.
 
SE would put together a trio of RBI extra base hits and McDermott added an RBI single and Southeastern would jump out to a 13-11 lead.
 
A SWOSU two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth would knot the game at 13-13.
 
The Storm would put up three runs in the top of the seventh, but SWOSU again answered and would swipe an 18-16 lead.
 
The Storm would pick up four runs in the eighth on RBI hits from Miles, French, and Burroughs.
 
SWOSU would get close the score to 20-19 in the bottom of the eighth before Miles drove in one and French added two RBI before Rice scored on a wild pitch to take a 24-19 lead.
 
The Bulldogs would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 24-21.
 
In the finale, Morrow would finish with a team-leading 3-for-4 outing, with Rice, French, and Evans adding two hits apiece.
 
Miles and Ochoa each added a single hit.
 
Rice, French, and Evans each drove in a pair of runs, while Ochoa added an RBI of his own.
 
Cole Canuteson got the start and moved to 4-1 with a complete-game victory, allowing seven runs on nine hits over five innings with seven strikeouts.
 
French would double in Miles to put the Storm on the board in the top of the first and Ochoa would single home French to make that lead 2-0.
 
SWOSU would answer with four runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 4-2 lead.
 
SE picked up the scoring again in the second, first with McDermott scoring on an error, followed by a Rice RBI single.
 
Miles would then come home on the hang-up play before French tacked on a solo homer and Evans added a two-run shot to take a n 8-4 lead.
 
SWOSU answered with a two-run single, but Rice would follow with an RBI single in the third to take a 9-6 lead.
 
The Bulldogs would bring home one final run on a double-play ball, making the final score 9-7 after the game was called after going official due to darkness.
