Beason Helps Power SE to Win in Home Opener

DURANT, Okla. – Lauren Beason put up 16 points off the bench and Southeastern held off Southwestern Assemblies of God for a 63-55 win on Tuesday night in the home opener at Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 2-1 on the young season with another non-conference home contest set for 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon versus Midwestern State back in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Lauren Beason was their leading scorer with 16 points while hitting 4-of-6 from the floor, all from beyond the three-point line.

She was joined in double figures by Caitlin Kobiske and Grace Alverson who each finished with 10.

Holli Lindley just missed double-digits with eight points on the night.

Kobiske would pace the squad on the boards with eight rebounds, with Ashton Hackler, Lindley, and Beason each hauling in six.

Kenzli Warden led the team in assists with four.

SE jumped out in front early, mounting an 11-2 lead before seven-straight Lion points would close the gap to two points, but SE would answer and edge its lead out to 17-11 at the first quarter break.

SAGU would tie the game early in the second quarter, but a Lindley three would snap that tie and the Storm would lead for the remainder of the quarter, taking a 31-28 lead into the half.

The Lions would chip at SE, eventually taking the lead and holding it by as many as four points with 3:00 to go in the third quarter before Southeastern closed the frame on an 8-1 run to take a 46-43 lead into the final quarter.

The run would continue to open the fourth, scoring the first seven points of the quarter to lead 54-43 with 7:59 to play.

SAGU would get as close as five points over the final seven minutes, but the Storm would hold on for a 63-55 victory.
