Storm Open GAC Play with Loss to No. 2 SAU

DURANT, Okla.  – Southeastern jumped out early with a four-run first inning but was un able to hold off a rally by No. 2 Southeastern Arkansas in a 6-4 loss on Friday afternoon in the conference opener at Mike Metheny Field.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 5-4 overall on the year and 0-1 in Great American Conference play, with the final two games of the series slated for a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
 
Cole Canuteson got the start and took a no decision after tossing 5.0 innings and allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits with seven strikeouts.
 
Charlie Deeds tossed 2.2 innings in relief and would take the loss after allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
 
Jared Barta would toss two-third of an inning with a strikeout, while Jakob Berger came on to finish the game with two-thirds of an inning, allowing a hit while striking out one.
 
On offense, Cory Bonstrom had a pair of hits, while Cameron Cromer, Jake Miller, Cameron French, Damon Burroughs, and Seth Morrow each added a hit.
 
French would drive in a pair of runs, while Morrow and Joseph Ramirez each had one RBI.
 
Southeastern jumped in front early, with Bonstrom and Cromer posting back-to-back singles to open the game before the Storm loaded the bases with one out.
 
French would then connect on a two-run single to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Burroughs would follow with a single to load the bases and another run would come home when Morrow plated Reid Rice for a 3-0 lead.
 
A batter later Ramirez would bring home French on a sac fly for the 4-0 advantage.
 
SAU would chip away, scoring one run in each of the next four innings to tie the game at 4-0.
 
Both teams would put zeros up on the board until SAU would plate a pair of runs in the top of the eighth which would prove to be the difference in the 6-4 final.
