SE Takes Series Finale Over Weevils

MONROE, La. – Southeastern bounced back in the series finale versus Arkansas-Monticello and picked up a 5-3 win on Monday afternoon in Monroe, La.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in Great American Conference play, heading into a Tuesday afternoon non-conference matchup versus Newman at 2 p.m. on Mike Metheny Field.

Reid Rice led the SE offense on Monday with a three-hit outing while driving in a pair of runs and scoring twice.

Matt Miles and Damon Burroughs followed with a pair of hits, while Sam Creed, Jake Miller, Cameron French, and Joseph Ramirez each picked up one.

Miller and Ramirez would add an RBI each to the two from Rice.

Connor Priest got the start and would take a no decision after tossing five innings and allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

Michael Barta picked up the win in relief after hurling three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit.

Brody Logdson would then come on and earn the save after allowing a run on two hits in one inning of work.

Rice would single home Creed in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead, but UAM would answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Rice would strike again in the fifth with an RBI double that plated Miles for a 2-1 lead, but again the Boll Weevils would answer with a run to knot the game at 2-2 after five.

Once more it was Rice, this time scoring on a wild pitch to put Southeastern back in front in the top of the seventh, with Ramirez following two batters later with a bases-loaded walk to stretch that lead to 4-2.

Miller would bring home Rice again in the eighth to extend the lead to 5-2, with UAM picking up one in the ninth to fashion the final of 5-3.
