SE Grounds Jets in 17-7 Run-Rule Win on Tuesday

DURANT, Okla. – Damon Burroughs collected four hits and Seth Morrow drove in six runs to lead an offensive onslaught as Southeastern earned a 17-7 run-rule win over Newman in seven innings on Tuesday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 8-8 overall heading into a three-game weekend series against Southwestern Oklahoma State that is scheduled for march 3-4.

SE collected 15 hits on the contest, with Burroughs posting a 4-for-5 effort to lead the way with two doubles and a triple, driving in two runs and scoring four.

Seth Morrow finished a triple shy of the cycle with three total hits and a game-high six RBI.

Sam Creed, Reid Rice, and Dylan Herd each added two hits, with Matt Miles and John David Muse each collecting one.

Rice would homer and drive in four runs, with Miles and Burroughs driving in two each.

Muse, Heath Pickhardt, and Herd each drive in a run.

Bristol Carson got the start and took a no decision after tossing two innings and allowing three runs on two hits.

Colby Kroutil picked up the win in his collegiate debut, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing a run on four hits.

Patrick Norman would come on for the final two-thirds of an inning and kept NU off the scoreboard.

A Rice double would put SE on the board, and two batters later Morrow would connect on a three-run homer to right, pushing the lead to 4-0 after one inning.

The Jets would get two runs back in the top of the second, but the SE offense would pick back up in the bottom of the second as Miles would drive in two runs on a single and would later score on a Burroughs double.

A batter later Morrow would double as well to plate Burroughs for an 8-2 lead.

A run in the third for NU followed by four in the fourth would trim the Southeastern edge to 8-7 heading to the bottom of the fourth.

Morrow would connect on a two-run single to give the Storm some breathing room with a 10-7 lead.

Rice would add three more runs in the fifth when Rice homered over the left-field wall to extend the lead to 13-7 after five innings.

Herd would add a run in the sixth on an RBI groundout to push the lead to 14-7.

In the seventh, Burrouighs would triple home Rice to push the lead to 15-7 and that was followed by consecutive walks issued to Morrow, Blake McQuain, Muse, and Pickhardt, with the last two driving in runs which triggered the run rule in the 17-7 win.
