SE Drops Both ends of Midweek Twinbill

DENTON, Texas – Sabetha Sands collected five hits over two games but it was not enough to lift Southeastern as the Savage Storm dropped both ends of a midweek doubleheader, falling 9-1 in the opener before dropping the nightcap 5-4 against Texas Woman's on Wednesday night in Denton, Texas.

The losses drop the Savage Storm to 19-16 on the season heading into a three-game conference series versus Northwestern Oklahoma State that has been pushed back to start with an April 1 doubleheader at 1 p.m. and end with a single game on April 2 at noon at the Southeastern Softball Field.

In the nightcap, Sabetha Sands and Iliana Olivares each had three hits, while Cheyenne Mahy added two and Jaleigh Durst posted one.

Olivares would drive in a pair of runs, with Sands adding one RBI.

Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and tossed a complete game, going 7.2 innings and allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits with seven strikeouts.

SE got RBI doubles from Sabetha Sands and Iliana Olivares and took advantage of a pair of Pioneer errors to open up a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

TWU would answer with two runs in the second inning to close the gap to 3-2, but another Olivares double would bring home a run and push the SE lead to 4-2.

The Pioneers would bring home two runs in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out, two-run double, tying the game at 4-4 and forcing extra innings.

SE would get a leadoff runner on in the eighth, but strand her at second, while TWU would do the same thing but was able to connect on a two-out, RBI single to take the game 5-4.

In the opener, Sabetha Sands had a pair of hits and Cheyenne Mahy added one and an RBI.

Reese Taylor got the start in the circle and took the loss after allowing nine runs, seven earned, on 10 hits with four strikeouts over four innings.

A Mahy double would put the Storm on the board in the top of the first, but TWU would answer with six runs in the bottom of the first and then added a three-run fourth inning to take the 9-1 final score.
