Taylor, Walsworth Shut Down No. 18 HU In Sweep

SEARCY, Ark. – Reese Taylor and Amberlyn Walsworth each tossed complete-game shutouts as Southeastern swept a Friday evening doubleheader at No. 18 Harding, taking the opener by a 2-0 score before winning the nightcap 3-0 in Searcy, Ark.

The sweep lifts the Savage Storm to 26-18 overall on the season and 20-6 in Great American Conference play with the finale of the series set for noon on Saturday.

In the opener, Marilyn Alvarado provided the difference with a two-run homer to lead the offense.

Sabetha Sands, Cheyenne Mahy, Kady Fryrear, Gracie Ore, Kamryn Rackley, Ananda Garrison, and Sammi Dutton each registered a hit.

Taylor tossed a complete-game shutout to pick up her ninth win of the season after allowing four hits and striking out three over seven innings.

The game's only scoring came in the third as Sands connected on a one-out double, setting the stage for Alvarado who connected on a two-run homer which would hold up as the difference in a 2-0 victory.

In the nightcap, Sands would collect a pair of hits, while Alvarado, Fryrear, Iliana Olivares, and Rackley each added a hit.

Fryrear would drive in a pair of runs, while Rackley added an RBI.

Walsworth picked up her 12th win of the season after tossing her own complete-game shutout, scattering nine hits over seven innings with four stirkeouts.

Both pitchers kept runs off the board through four innings, with SE breaking through first in the top of the fifth when Rackley would drive in Bailey Beard on a sac fly to centerfield for a 1-0 lead.

The Storm would survive a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fifth, and would take advantage when Fryrear connected on a two-run triple to plate Alvarado and Sands, pushing the lead to 3-0 midway through the sixth inning.

Walsworth would get out of trouble with runners in scoring position in the sixth and the seventh innings to preserve the 3-0 win for the Storm.
