Southeastern Takes Series Opener at ATU

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Sam Creed had a trio of hits and Damon Burroughs homered to lead Southeastern to an 8-5 win over Arkansas Tech in the series opener on Friday night in Russellville, Ark.
 
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 23-21 overall on the season and 14-14 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series set for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
 
Creed finished the night 3-for-5 with a double, while Burroughs added two hits, including a double and a home run.
 
Seth Morrow and Dylan Herd each added two hits as well.
 
Matt Miles, Jake Miller, Joseph Ramirez, and Cameron French each added a hit on the night.
 
Herd would drive in a pair of runs, while Creed, Cameron Cromer, Burroughs, and French each had an RBI.
 
Cole Canuteson got the start and picked up his fifth win of the season after allowing two runs on 10 hits over six innings with five strikeouts.
 
Jordan Compton would come on in relief and record his third save of the year after allowing three runs on three hits over three innings with five strikeouts.
 
SE took a lead in the top of the first as Creed would come around and score on a Rice hit and an error to take a 1-0 lead.
 
ATU would answer with a run in the bottom of the first to knot the game at 1-1.
 
In the second inning, Herd would drive in Miller to regain the lead and a Creed RBI single would stretch the lead to 3-1. Herd would come home on an error later in the inning to make the lead 4-1.
 
The Wonder Boys would answer with a run in the bottom half, cutting the Storm lead to 4-2.
 
Cromer would bring home French on a sac fly in the fourth, and back-to-back RBI singles by French and Herd would push the lead to 7-2 midway through the fifth.
 
Burroughs would tack on his solo homer in the sixth to take an 8-2 lead midway through the sixth.
 
ATU would score three runs in the bottom of the ninth to close the final gap to 8-5 fin favor of the Storm.
