Walsworth Hits Milestone As Storm Finish Off Sweep of ATU

DURANT, Okla. – Amberlyn Walsworth passed a career milestone in strikeouts and Southeastern polished off a series sweep of Arkansas Tech with a pair of 4-2 victories on Saturday afternoon at the Southeastern Softball Field.

The wins lift the Savage Storm to 29-21 overall on the season and 23-7 in Great American Conference play.

In the opener, Walsworth would pick up the victory after allowing two unearned runs on six hits in seven innings. She would strikeout five in the contest, surpassing the 500 strikeouts milestone for her career, bringing her to 501 strikeouts.

Cheyenne Mahy would collect a pair of hits on offense, while Marilyn Alvarado, Kady Fryrear, Alexis Massie, and Bailey Beard added a hit each.

Massie would finish with a triple and a pair of RBI, while Mahy and Fryrear each drove on a run.

ATU struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of an error and three hits to take a 2-0 lead.

Southeastern struck back with a Mahy RBI single in the fifth, followed by a Fryrear RBI single, with Massie completing the three-straight Rbi hits by driving in two more runs on a triple, taking a 4-2 lead which would hold up as the final.

In the series finale, Mahy would post a 3-for-4 effort at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored, while Sabetha Sands, Alvrado, Fryrear, Massie, Reese Taylor, and Gracie Ore added a hit each.

Mahy would also get the start and collect the win after tossing a complete-game and allowing two runs, one of them earned, on five hits over seven innings.

A Mahy triple in the bottom of the first would put the Storm on the board, and a batter later Fryrear would single home Mahy for a 2-0 lead.

The Golden Suns would answer by tying the game with two runs in the top of the third.

That lead would not last long however as Taylor would single home Mahy for a 3-2 lead.

Sands would double home Gracie Ore in the sixth to tack on an insurance run and the Storm would pick up the 4-2 win.
