Savage Storm Sweep Rival Tigers on Friday

ADA, Okla. – Southeastern secured its berth in the Great American Conference tournament by picking up a pair of wins over rival East Central on Friday afternoon, downing the Tigers 11-5 in game one before adding an 8-4 win in game two in Ada, Okla.
 
The wins lift the Savage Storm to 26-23 overall and 16-16 in Great American Conference play with the regular-season finale set for 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Sam Creed posted a 3-for-3 outing in game one to lead the way, while Joseph Ramirez and Dylan Herd each added a pair of hits.
 
Reid Rice, Seth Morrow, and Matt Miles added one hit apiece.
 
Damon Burroughs, Ramirez, and Herd each drove in two runs, while Creed and Miles collected an RBI each.
 
Cole Canuteson got the start but took a no decision after allowing five runs on six hits with three strikeouts over three innings.
 
Cameron Hauch would come on to collect the win in relief, his third, after tossing four scoreless innings and scattering two hits amid four strikeouts.
 
Jordan Compton would come on to close out the contest, picking up his fourth save after striking out one and allowing no runs or hits over two innings.
 
Creed would open the game with a walk followed by a steal of second before ultimately coming around to score on a Burroughs RBI groundout to take a 1-0 lead in the first.
 
ECU would answer with a run in the bottom half to tie the game and tack on two more in the third to open up a 3-1 lead after two innings.
 
In the top of the fourth the Storm would find an answer, first with Miles driving in Rice on a sac fly before Morrow came in on a Ramirez reached on errors play to tie the game at 3-3.
 
A batter later Herd would give SE the lead with an RBI single, going ahead 4-3.
 
That would be short lived as the Tigers regained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, going up 5-4.
 
Two innings later Southeastern would regain the momentum, first with Miles scoring on a throwing error to tie the game before taking the lead with a Creed RBI single and stretching it to 7-5 on a Burroughs sac fly later in the inning.
 
SE would cash in on an error in the top of the eighth to allow Herd to come around and push the lead to 8-5.
 
In the ninth inning Ramirez would add a two-run triple and Herd would drive in Ramirez with a single to push the lead out to the final score of 11-5.
 
In the nightcap, Burroughs posted three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead the way on offense.
 
Creed added a pair of hits, while Cory Bonstrom, Rice, Jake Miller, Miles, and Herd added a hit each.
 
Bonstrom, Rice, Miller, Cameron French, and Miles each picked up an RBI.
 
Dylan Turner got the start and took a no decision after allowing a run on four hits over five innings with six strikeouts.
 
Coby Langford picked up the win after tossing an inning and allowed three runs on two hits before handing off to Compton who tossed the final inning without allowing a run.
 
SE jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring on a Burroughs RBI single and adding a run on a Rice RBI single a batter later.
 
French would drive in a run later in the inning on a sac fly before Miles pushed the lead to 4-0 with an RBI double.
 
ECU would get a run back in the bottom half of the first and then tack on three runs in the bottom of the sixth to knot the game at 4-4.
 
The Storm would break the tie in the top of the seventh on a Bonstrom RBI double.
 
SE added another run a batter later when Creed scored on a wild pitch, followed by a Burroughs RBI single and ultimately pushing the lead to 8-4 on a Miller RBI fielder's choice.
 
Compton would come on and get out of the final inning without allowing run to preserve the 8-4 final score.
