BETHANY, Okla. –
Sabetha Sands homered as Southeastern got a combined pitching gem from
Reese Taylor and
Amberlyn Walsworth en route to a 2-1 win over Southern Nazarene in the series opener on Thursday afternoon in Bethany, Okla.

The win pushed the Savage Storm record to 22-17 overall and 16-5 in Great American conference play with the final two games of the series set for a Friday doubleheader at noon.

Sands homered while
Gracie Ore collected the team's other hit.

Sands and Ore each had an RBI on the day as well.
Â
Taylor got the start in the circle and tossed 4.2 innings, allowing a run on four hits with two strikeouts in a no decision.

Walsworth would come on and allow a hit while striking out two on her way to her ninth win of the season in 2.1 innings of relief work.

Sands connected on her first homer of the season in the top of the first inning to get SE on the board with a 1-0 lead.

Both teams were quiet offensively until the fifth inning when SNU tied the game at 1-1 by scoring on a wild pitch.

The tie would last just until the topo of the sixth inning when
Kady Fryrear would draw a walk and move to second on a sac bunt before coming home on an Ore RBI single to regain the lead at 2-1.

Walsworth would allow a hit to lead off the sixth inning and would retire the side in the seventh to preserve the 2-1 win
