Storm Drop Five-Set Battle Versus SBU

DURANT, Okla. – D'Nari Mills posted another 20-plus kill outing but it wasn't enough to lift Southeastern to a win on Saturday afternoon as the Savage Storm stumbled in hard-fought five set match against Southwest Baptist in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.

The loss drops SE to 4-7 on the season as the squad prepares to jump back into Great American Conference play on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. back in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.

"We came out strong in the first set," said head coach Nicole Solum-Mitchell, "And after that felt like we were always have to come from behind. We lacked our consistency in serve receive to get our middles moving. SBU is a great GLVC team and I think we battled hard but made to many easy mistakes. D'Nari and Ruth continued to lead us. I'm excited to be back in our gym again on Tuesday."

Mills ran her 20-plus kill streak to five-straight matches as she finished with 25 on the afternoon while hitting .314 on 51 attacks.

Michera Moffett and Noelia Rocha were next in liner with eight kills apiece, while Ruthie Forson chipped in seven in the effort.

Forson would finish with 45 assists on the match along with her seven kills while adding five digs.

Mills and Amaya Constantino each led the way on defense with 13 digs, while Patience Lewis added 11.

At the net, Moffett and Sandra Acheampong each posted two blocks.

The Storm looked in control early on its way to a 25-12 win in the first set, but would find itself looking up at a 2-1 deficit after losses of 25-22 and 25-19 over the next two sets.

SE regained its momentum in the fourth with a 25-20 win, but could not carry it into the fifth where SBU would take the deciding set 15-12.
