DURANT, Okla. – The teams traded big third-quarter runs as the Southeastern saw a double-digit lead disappear before a cold shooting fourth quarter would prove costly in a 59-56 loss to Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
The Savage Storm drop to 4-10 overall and 0-8 in Great American Conference play.
Â
Kenzli Warden turned in a season-high 16 points to lead all SE scorers on the night, doing the bulk of her damage at the line where she was 10-of-12.
Â
Holli Lindley was the only other Storm player in double figures, finishing with 14, while
Caitlin Kobiske just missed double-digits with nine.
Â
Kobiske and Warden each hauled in eight rebounds as the Storm held a 38-to-35 edge on the boards overall with both teams shooting under 40.0 percent for the game.
Â
Lindley would add six rebounds, while
Lauren Beason chipped in five.
Â
Lindley and
Eryn Dolan would each handout three assists.
Â
After scoring the first points of the game, Southeastern would fall behind as UAM scored six straight and held a five-point lead with 3:32 to play in the quarter.
Â
An
Ashton Hackler jumper would get SE moving and a Hackler three a minute later would knot the game at 13-13 which is where it would stand at the first quarter break.
Â
The Storm would maintain a one-possession lead throughout a low scoring second quarter, using a 5-0 run to close the period to take a 26-20 lead at the break.
Â
That run picked up where it left off in the third quarter as SE opened the frame on a 14-2 run to take its largest lead of the game at 38-22 with 6:55 to play in the third.
Â
UAM would respond with a 16-0 run to tie the game at 38-38 with 1:03 to play in the quarter, and after trading buckets, SE would take a 42-40 lead into the final frame thanks to a pair of Warden free throws with nine seconds to play.
Â
The teams traded the lead early in the fourth quarter, but neither would lead by more than a possession until a UAM three would push the Cotton Blossom advantage to 52-48 with 4:27 to play.
Â
SE would twice get the deficit to two points over the final four minutes, but was unable to complete the comeback in a 59-56 loss.
