Southeastern Outlasted by SWOSU in Four Sets, 3-1

WEATHERFORD, Okla. –  Southeastern Oklahoma State fell on the road at Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-1 in a four-set battle in the Pioneer Event Center. 
 
The Savage Storm notched 47 kills over the four sets on a .178 attack percentage, led by D'Nari Mills with a team-high 14 kills. Mills also added 21 digs for a double-double, while Ruthie Forson notched another triple-double with 32 assists, 15 digs and ten kills.
 
Patience Lewis paced the side with 31 digs, and Michera Moffett and Maci Morrison led the defensive efforts at the net, combining for 6.0 total blocks.
 
Southeastern (5-9, 2-3) breaks from GAC action with a road contest in Sherman, Texas, on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. against Austin College.
 
SET ONE
SE and SWOSU went point-for-point in the first 16 rallies, with the score locked at 8-all. Southeastern found a breakthrough on a 4-0 burst featuring two kills by Moffett to give the Storm a 13-11 advantage before a pair of Bulldog errors stretched the lead to 15-12.
 
Southeastern stayed on the front foot, extending its edge to 20-16 on a 4-1 run, forcing a second timeout by the hosts. SE took a 23-18 lead out of the break, but a late push by Southwestern would see the Bulldogs cut the gap to 24-22 before a SWOSU service error gave the Storm the winning point, 25-22.
 
SET TWO
Southeastern trailed 5-2 in the opening exchanges but soon found its footing and would take the lead 9-8 after three kills by Forson on a 5-1 burst. Southwestern matched SE's 5-1 run to retake the lead 13-10 and extended it to 18-13 on a 3-0 stretch. The Bulldogs held their lead to set point, winning the frame 25-18.  
 
SET THREE
SWOSU and SE traded 5-0 bursts to start the frame with the score tied 5-all. The Bulldogs found the lead and would not look back, scoring eight straight points to go ahead 20-10. Southwestern remained in control to take the third set 25-14.
 
SET FOUR
The Storm jumped out to a 5-3 lead and would hold a two to three-point margin over the Bulldogs, up 14-11. SWOSU soon exploded in attack, rattling off seven straight points to grab its first lead of the set, 18-14. Southeastern cut the gap to three 21-19 on a 3-0 run, but the Bulldog offense would prove too much, as Southwestern scored the final four points of the frame to win 25-19.
