DULUTH, Minn. – Southeastern Oklahoma State closes out the GAC/NSIC Conference Challenge with a defeat to Minot State 77-69.
SE (0-2) shot 40.8 percent (29-71) from the field and converted 34.8 percent from beyond the arc with eight triples. Minot State had the advantage at the glass 38-to-35 and finished the game shooting 47.5 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent at the three-point line.
DJ Dill paced the scoring for the blue-and-gold with 25 points on 10-17 shooting with three treys.
Daniel Halldorsson dished out seven assists and added 13 points and six rebounds to his totals.
Santiago Camacho Gomez and
Andrija Brzovic combined for 16 points, while Brzovic ended tied with a team-high six rebounds.
Minot State opened the first 20 minutes of play with a 5-0 lead after converting a three-point play. Halldorsson got the Storm on the board with a layup before the blue-and-gold took the lead on a 7-0 run capped off by a three-pointer by Stijovic with 12:47 left in the first half.
From there, the Storm and Beavers traded baskets with the score tied at 13-all and later 16-all following a three-pointer by Gomez. Minot State went cold for the next two and a half minutes, allowing the Storm to jump ahead 23-17 after four points by Dill. The Beavers picked up the pace again in the half's final two minutes to carry a 29-27 lead into the break.
Dill led the scoring for SE in the opening half with 11 points on 4-6 shooting from the field, while Stijovic and Gomez combined for 10. Southeastern shot 33.3 percent from the field and were 3-10 from beyond the arc.
Landon Condiff opened the scoring for the Storm in the second half with back-to-back triples to put SE in front 30-29. The two sides traded baskets from beyond the arc, with the Beavers ahead by one and would later stretch its lead to 50-40. A pair of layups and a triple by Dill cut the gap down to eight with ten minutes left in the half.
MInot State carried a six-to-seven point gap over SE over the next possessions before Halldorsson provided late pressure with two layups to cut the Beavers lead to five, but the Storm would run out of time, as Minot State held on to win 77-69. Southeastern (0-2) returns to the Bloomer Sullivan Arena for its home opener on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. against Dallas Christian.
