Storm Women Fall in Game Two of GAC-NSIC Challenge

ALVA, Okla. – Kenzli Warden led a trio of double-digit scorers but Southeastern struggled from the field on its way to a 61-53 loss to Winona State in game two of the GAC-NSIC Challenge on Saturday afternoon in Alva, Okla.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 1-1 on the year as they will now turn their attention to the home opener versus Northeastern State set for Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

Warden would finish the contest hitting 7-of-13 from the field for 15 points to lead the way for SE while pulling down six rebounds.

Caitlin Kobiske was next in line with 14 points, hitting 8-of-8 from the free throw line to power her way there, while also pulling down a game-high seven rebounds and leading the Storm in assists with four.

Holli Lindley rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Storm with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting with a trio of threes and five rebounds.

Abbie Barr finished just shy of double-figures with nine points.

SE held a 17-6 edge in points off turnovers but could not offset a 29.7-to-51.1 percent shooting effort.

The Storm scored the first nine points of the game, with a Lindley three at the 6:01 mark capping that run, but the Warriors would use a 14-3 run over the final five minutes of the quarter to take a 14-12 lead at the first break.

A 7-0 run in the first half of the second quarter would help SE regain the lead, and a Warden three at the 4:33 mark would push that edge to 26-19.

The lead remained seven points till the 3:06 mark, but WSU would score the final five points of the half and Southeastern's lead sat at 28-26 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Warriors would break a 32-32 tie with a 12-2 run to open up a 44-34 lead with 1:24 to go in the frame.

The deficit remained 10 heading into the final minute before a Kaydrin Scott bucket closed the gap to 46-38 at the end of three.

WSU would extend its lead to as many as 13 points in the early minutes of the fourth quarter, but back-to-back Barr threes would close the gap to seven points with 6:20 to play.

SE would get the gap to seven points once more with 3:15 to play, but after answering a Warrior three with a pair of Kobiske free throws with 2:22 to play, neither team would score again, leaving the final 61-53.
