SHAWNEE, Okla. – Second-half woes by Southeastern Oklahoma State slow the Savage Storm in Thursday's road contest at Oklahoma Baptist 97-66.
SE (3-6 1-2) was held to 35.8 percent shooting for the game, while the Bison shot a high clip from the floor at 66.1 percent. The Storm struggled at the three-point line, going just 8-of-33, and were 10-14 from the charity stripe. The Bison had the advantage at the glass 38-to-28 and carried a slim edge in the turnover battle 10-to-12.
Landon Condiff led the scoring for Southeastern with 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting, and
Robert Briley added 12 points.
DJ Dill followed with 11 points, while
Daniel Halldorsson dished out a team-high six assists.
A slow start by the Storm saw Oklahoma Baptist build a 9-2 advantage, but SE soon found its rhythm on a 6-0 run capped off by a three-pointer by
Jalen Williams to trim the gap to one. Moments later, Southeastern would take the lead after six straight points by Briley to push SE ahead 18-16. Another burst of points from the Bison swung the score back in their favor on a 5-0 run and would stretch the gap to 27-21.
Briley helped spark another flurry of baskets for the Storm at the free-throw line as Southeastern outscored the Bison 10-2 over the next three minutes to jump in front 31-29 with 3:14 remaining in the half. However, just like the opening minutes of the game, Oklahoma Baptist finished off the first period strong on an 8-0 run to grab the edge again 39-35.
The Bison carried the momentum from the end of the first half into the final 20 minutes, building a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 48-35. SE chipped into the OBU lead with a pair of baskets by
Ethan Wilkerson and two three-pointers from
Elijah Hughey to cut the lead to nine, 56-47. Another flurry of baskets by the Bison grew the host's edge to 71-49 and later 77-52.
Oklahoma Baptist remained in control for the final minutes of the game to win 97-66. Southeastern (3-6, 1-2) returns home on Monday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. to host Northwestern Oklahoma State.
