Cold First Half Spells Doom for Storm

DURANT, Okla. – Kenzli Warden led a trio of double-digit scorers, but it was not enough to overcome a cold shooting first half in a 75-66 loss to Henderson State on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
 
The Savage Storm slip to 10-16 overall and 6-14 in Great American Conference play, while the Reddies improve to 17-9 and 13-7 in league play.
 
Warden would finish the contest with 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting while pulling down six rebounds.
 
Caitlin Kobiske followed with 13 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds while handing out a team-high five assists.
 
Grace Alverson would turn in 11 points off the bench, hitting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
 
Ashton Hackler just missed double-digits with nine points, while Holli Lindley added seven points.
 
Lindley also turned in eight rebounds and snagged three steals.
 
Warden would turn in six points in the first quarter to lead the way, but SE would finish 3-of-14 from the field in the first frame, including an 0-for-3 effort from beyond the arc, with a 6-for-6 effort at the line getting the Storm to a 21-12 deficit after one period.
 
The shooting slightly improved in the second quarter, going 4-of-14 overall and hitting a pair of threes, but would trail at the half 39-24.
 
Kobiske would put up eight points in the third quarter and the Storm would connect on 8-of-17 shots overall and 3-of-7 from three-point range, slightly closing the gap to 59-45 after three quarters.
 
The Storm would trail by as many as 20 in the fourth quarter, but would chip away down the stretch, outscoring HSU 12-1 over the final 3:42 to make the final differential 75-66.
