SE Falls Twice to Close Mardi Gras Invite

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – Southeastern closed out a rain-altered Mardi Gras Invitational on Sunday with a pair of losses, first falling to Unions by a 2-0 score before dropping the weekend finale to Augustana 7-2 in Youngsville, La.

The losses move the Savage Storm to 1-3 on the season overall heading into a second-straight weekend event from Feb. 9-11 at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic in Bentonville, Ark.

In the day's opener versus Union, Sabetha Sands, Sage Harlow, Reese Taylor, and Sammi Dutton each logged a hit, and the Storm collected four other walks but would leave eight runners stranded.

In the circle, Taylor tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

The difference in the contest came in the first inning when the second batter of the game for UU would connect on a two-run homer to provide all the scoring the game would see.

IN the finale, Harlow would pick up two more hits, with Emily Simmons, India McMurray, and Bailey Beard each adding a hit.

Harlow would drive in a run, as would McMurray with her first homer of the season.

Emily Simmons got the start and took the loss after allowing seven runs, five earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts in a complete game.

McMurray's homer in the top of the second inning gave the Storm a lead early, but Augustana would answer with four runs in the bottom half taking advantage of a pair of Storm errors.

The Vikings would add three more on a pair of hits in the sixth to stretch its lead to 7-1.

SE would get an RBI single from Harlow in the top of the seventh but that was where the rally would end as the Storm fell 7-2.
