Storm Drop Midweek Matchup vs. NSU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern used eight pitchers on Tuesday afternoon as it dropped its first contest of the season, falling 5-3 to Northeastern State in midweek action at Mike Metheny Field.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 3-1 on the year and will be back on the field for a three-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 9 versus Newman.

Reid Rice, Wesley Mitchell, and Brady Evans each picked up two hits, while Damon Burroughs and Yanluis Ortiz each added one.

Ortiz and Mitchell drove in two of the team's three runs.

Burroughs finished with a triple, while being joined by Cory Bonstrom, Mitchell, and Dylan Herd with stolen bases.

Brett Tanksley got the start and had the longest outing of the contest for the Storm, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing a run on three hits with three strikeouts in a no decision.

Michael Minaya was next in and tossed 1.3 innings, allowing a run while striking out three before handing off to Payton Heinley who was tagged for two runs on two hits without recording an out and was saddled with the loss, his first of the year.

Coby Langford, Ben Holbert, and Jackson Sioson each tossed an inning without allowing a run.

Jared Barta would come on and record one-third of an inning and was tagged for a run before Brody Logsdon came on and got the final two outs.

SE got on the board first as a double steal saw Burroughs come home to take a 1-0 lead after one innings.

An NSU sacrifice fly in the second would knot the game at 1-1.

Scoring was quiet until the bottom of the fifth when an Ortiz single plated Herd to retake a 2-1 lead.

It was short lived though as the Riverhawks would put up three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 402 lead.

Mitchell would close the gap for SE with an RBI single to drive in Ortiz, but NSU would add a run in the ninth to make the final 5-3.
