Savage Storm Slug Past Newman in Series Opener

DURANT, Okla. – Damon Burroughs slugged two of Southeastern's four home runs as the Savage Storm stacked up runs in a 13-0 run-rule victory over Newman in seven innings in the series opener on Friday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field.

The win lifts SE to 4-1 on the season with games two and three of the series set for a Saturday doubleheader slated for 11 a.m.

Burroughs finished the contest 2-for-4 with a pair of homers and a game-high five RBI.

Nick Hill would pace the offense in hits with three, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

Reid Rice would add a pair of hits, while Wesley Mithcell added one, a homer, with three RBI, and Coby Grimsley tacked on a hit as well.

Yanluis Ortiz and Cache Stone would each drive in a run on bases loaded walks.

Not to be overshadowed, the Storm pitching staff tossed a combined one-hitter.

Cameron Hauch got the start and earned his second-straight win after going 6.0 innings and allowing no runs on one hit with six strikeouts before handing off to Jackson Sioson who tossed the final inning and struck out the side.

Scoring was quiet early until the third inning when Burroughs connected on a two-run homer to get SE on the board with a 2-0 lead after three innings.

Nicvk Hill would follow with a solo homer in the fourth.

Burroughs would go to the well again in the fifth, this time smashing a three-run shot to right field to extend the lead to 6-0 after five.

Wesley Mitchell would get the offense moving with his own three-run homer in the sixth inning, and after loading the bases again, Ortiz and Stone would draw back-to-back bases loaded walks to plate two more runs.

A two-run Hill single would cap scoring in the inning and extend the lead to 13-0 which would hold up as the final after Sioson struck out three of the four batters he faced in the top of the seventh.
