Burroughs Walk-Off Grand Slam Lifts SE to Win

DURANT, Okla. – Damon Burroughs connected on a walk-off grand slam to lift Southeastern to a 15-13 series-closing victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Monday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field.

The win snaps a 12-game losing skid and lifts the Savage Storm to 7-14 on the season overall and 1-11 in Great American Conference play heading into a non-conference matchup with Austin College at 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon back at Mike Metheny Field.

Damon Burroughs provided the fireworks as he finished the day 2-for-5 with four RBI on the grand slam and three runs scored on the contest.

Coby Grimsley would leads the way with a 3-for-4 performance with a homer as well and two RBI.

Austin Thorp would pick up two hits, one of them the team's third homer of the day, driving in one run.

Cache Stone, Nick Hill, John David Muse, and Yanluis Ortiz each added a hit, while Stone, Hill, Antonio Crews, and Cameron Cromer added an RBI each.

Bristol Carson got the start and tossed 1.1 innings, allowing five runs on five hits with two strikeouts before handing off to Charlie Deeds who followed with 3.2 innings of work, allowing one unearned run on one hit.

Dylan Turner would face four batters to open the sixth inning and was tagged for four runs on three hits, followed by Hayden alexander who allowed three runs, one of them earned, on four hits in three innings of work.

Brody Logsdon would toss the ninth inning and earn the victory in the process after facing the minimum number of batters.

Trailing 13-10 midway through the sixth inning, the Storm would go scoreless in the bottom half and both teams would remain off the scoreboard until the ninth inning.

After Logsdon got out of the top half on three groundouts, Muse would open the bottom half with a single.

Two batters later Cory Bonstrom would draw a walk, followed by a Grimsley HBP to load the bases.

Cromer would then draw a bases loaded walk to close the gap to 13-11 and bring Burroughs to the plate where he would crush a no-doubter over the right-field wall to lift SE to the 15-13 win.

OBU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a first-inning three-run homer.

The Storm would answer in the bottom half of the first, starting with a bases-loaded walk drawn by Hill and followed by a two-run double by Ortiz to tie the game at 3-3.

Crews would follow a batter later with a sac fly to take the lead and Grimsley would drive in Ortiz to push the lead to 5-3 after one.

A two-run homer in the top of the second by the Bison would tie the game at 5-5, but the Storm would retake the lead on a Stone RBI single in the bottom half of the second at 6-5.

A Thorp home run and an Ortiz sac fly in the fourth inning would stretch the SE lead to 8-5.

OBU would pick up a run in the top of the fifth to narrow the gap, but Southeastern would get a Grimsley leadoff homer in the bottom half of the fifth and would see Burroughs score on a wild pitch later in the inning to mount a 10-6 lead.

The Bison would load the bases on three-straight batters to open the sixth inning, setting the stage for an RBI single and a grand slam back-to-back to take an 11-10 lead.
