Savage Storm Wins Series Opener over HSU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern connected on three extra base hits and took advantage of four Henderson State errors en route to a 7-4 win in the series opener on Saturday afternoon at the Southeastern Softball Field.

The Savage Storm improve to 12-13 on the season and 6-6 in Great American Conference play.

Game one would finish with rain falling which would see game two of the doubleheader pushed to Sunday afternoon, making it a noon doubleheader back at the SE Softball Field on March 17.

Emily Simmons and Bailey Beard each picked up two hits to lead the Storm offense, with Gracie Ore, Kady Fryrear, Reese Taylor, Sabetha Sands, and Sammi Dutton each adding a hit.

Simmons would drive in two RBI, while Ore, Sage Harlow, and Fryrear each added one RBI.

Reese Taylor got the start and tossed a complete game, allowing four runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts.

Simmons would reach on an error in the first inning and give SE a 2-0 lead as two runs would come home on the play.

The Reddies would get a run back on a solo homer in the top of the second, but an Ore sac fly would push the edge to 3-1.

HSU would again close the gap to 3-2, but the Storm would respond in the bottom of the fourth, first with Harlow driving in a run on a sac fly.

Fryrear would single on a squeeze bunt to plate Ore, followed by a Simmons RBI double and a run coming home as Sands reached on an error, pushing the lead to 7-2.

The Reddies would get a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but the Storm would end the game on a line-out double play to preserve the 7-4 win.
