Storm Stumble in Non-Conference Matchup

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern would connect on a trio of home runs, but it was not enough to power the Savage Storm past Oklahoma Baptist in a 13-7 non-conference loss on Tuesday afternoon in Shawnee, Okla.
 
The loss drops SE to 9-21 overall on the season heading into a three-game home series versus Northwestern Oklahoma State March 29-30 at Mike Metheny Field.
 
Cam Wheeler and Wesley Mitchell each turned in three hits, with each homering, while Austin Thorp, Cache Stone, Reid Rice, Coby Grimsley, and Kyler Copeland each added a hit.
 
Mitchell would finish with three RBI to lead the way, while Mitchell added two runs batted in.
 
Wheeler would drive in one on his own solo homer and Thorp would add an RBI as well.
 
Brett Tanksley got the start and took the loss after allowing five runs on six hits with one strikeout over 1.1 innings pitched.
 
Jaden Lewis, Dylan Turner, and Michael Minaya would combine to throw the next 3.2 innings and allowed eight runs, seven earned, on 11 hits with three K's.
 
Bristol Carson, Coby Langford, and Jared Barta would each toss a scoreless and hitless inning to close out the contest.
 
OBU would get on the board first with an RBI single in the first inning, but the Storm would answer in the top of the second with a two-run homer from Grimsley to take a 2-1 lead.
 
The Bison would pick up four runs in the bottom of the second and four more in the third to take a 9-2 lead after three innings.
 
Mitchell and Thorp would drive in runs in the fourth and Wheeler would add a solo homer in the fifth to close the gap to 9-5 midway through the fifth inning.
 
OBU would put up four more runs in the fifth to extend its lead to 13-5.
 
Mitchell would tack on a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to close the final gap to 13-7.
