SE Women Highlight GCCC Rodeo Outing

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Southeastern women's rodeo highlighted a trip to the Garden City CC rodeo with a first-place team finish thanks to seven finals qualifiers and four top-five finishes in the average.
 
Hannah Giger led that charge in the goat tying after splitting 2^nd/3^rd in the first round with a time of 6.9, she would come back with a run of 7.3 in the finals which was good for the top spot in the round and lifted her to the event championship in the average as well.
 
Kayleah Hurst joined her in the goat tying finals after running a 7.7 to advance and would match that 7.7 in the finals to split 4^th/5^th/6^th in the round, moving up to a seventh-place finish in the average.
 
Kayla Earnhardt currently ranks fifth in the goat tying regionally, with Jillian Pressley in ninth and Grace Collins in 14^th.
 
The Storm saw two reach the finals in the barrel racing as Casey Matchis split 3^rd/4^th with a run of 13.73 in the first round while Mollie Bassett clocked a time of 13.83 to finish eighth in the round.
 
Bassett would come back the faster of the two in the finals with a run of 13.41 to win the finals and move up to second in the average for the event.
 
Mathis would come back with a 13.54 in the finals to finish third in the round and third in the average, just behind Bassett.
 
Mathis' run secures her first place in the region in the barrel racing, while Mataya Eklund is ranked eighth, and Bassett is in 11^th.
 
A trio reached the finals in the breakaway, with Eklund leading that charge with a 2.5 to open the competition and split 3^rd-6^th in the first round.  She would follow it up with a 2.6 in the finals which was good for fourth in the round and lifted her to a fourth-place finish in the average for the weekend.
  
Baylee Lester matched the 2.5 first-round run and was in the mix splitting 3^rd-6^th before following it up with a 2.7 in the finals which split 5^th/6^th in the round.
 
Bassett would reach the finals in the breakaway with an opening run of 2.7, but would take a 3.5 in the finals which would put her just outside of the average competition.
 
Giger is holding onto sixth place in the breakaway rankings regionally, while Katelyn Hooper is in seventh, and Lester is in 15^th.
 
The Storm men had their most challenging outing of the season, seeing six competitors qualified for the finals, three of them in the steer wrestling.
 
Jarvis Demrey led the was for the storm in the steer wrestling, making the finals with a run of 4.7 but would take a no time in the finals.
 
Traden Anderson advanced after a time of 5.0 which split 6^th-8^th, but he too would suffer a no time in the finals.
 
Ry Clark was the third Storm steer wrestler to advance, turning in a 5.3 in the first round to split 8^th/9^th, and would come back in the finals with a 14.1 to finish sixth in the round and sixth in the average.
 
Clark currently ranks eighth in the region in steer wrestling, while Anderson is in 15^th.
 
Caleb Meeks reached the finals after posting a 73 on his first ride in the saddle bronc competition which split sixth place, but took a no score in the finals to fall out of the average.
 
Meeks still holds down second place in the region in the event.
 
Levi James and Garrett Hughes reached the finals in the team roping after turning in a 7.3 in the first round to finish fifth. The duo would follow with a no time in the finals to miss the average.
 
James is currently third in the region.
 
Demrey remains ranked in the tie down roping where he is currently sixth in the region, while Rowdy Nimrod holds onto 15^th despite missing events with an injury.
 
Caden Bunch remains in the top 10 in the bull riding, holding onto ninth, while Owen Brouillette and Braden Tyrer hang onto a fifth-place tie in the bareback riding, with Montana Duvall in eighth and Denton Jacobson in ninth.
 
The Savage Storm men dropped to fourth place regionally while the women moved up to 3rd place.
 
Both teams set back out on April 11^th for the Southwestern Oklahoma State Rodeo in Weatherford, Okla.
