SE Drops Tight Matchup in Series Opener

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern rallied from five runs down to take the lead but would see Arkansas Tech score a run each in the eighth and the ninth to swipe game one of the three-game series 7-6 on Sunday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 15-29 overall on the season and 5-23 in Great American Conference play with games two and three of the series set for a doubleheader on Monday afternoon.
 
Coby Grimsley and Wesley Mitchel each homered, while Brady Evans added a double and triple to finish with a pair of hits.
 
Reid Rice collected two hits as well with a pair of doubles, while Cameron Cromer added a hit.
 
Grimsley drove in three runs on his homer, while Mitchell plated two on his and Rice added the final RBI.
 
Cameron Hauch got the start and took a no decision after tossing seven innings and allowing five runs, two of them earned on four hits with five strikeouts.
 
Charlie Deeds would toss the final two innings and suffer the loss after allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
 
The Wonder Boys would jump out to a 5-0 lead with four runs in the second and added a solo homer in the fourth.
 
Mitchell would put SE on the board in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run homer that score Cromer.
 
Later in the inning the Storm would tie the game on a three-run blast over the centerfield wall from Grimsley to score Matt Miles and Rice to knot the game 5-5.
 
Rice would then double home Cromer in the fifth to give SE a 6-5 lead.
 
That would hold until the top of the eighth when ATU scored a run on a double to tie the game before taking the lead in the top of the ninth on a sac fly, setting the finals score at 7-6.
