Softball Stumbles in Sunday Road Doubleheader

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Southeastern outhits Arkansas Tech in the opener but stranded 11 runners and dropped a 1-0 decision before dropping the nightcap of the twinbill 7-2 on Sunday afternoon in Russellville, Ark.
 
The losses drop the Savage Storm to 23-25 on the season overall and 15-14 in Great American Conference play with the series finale set for noon on Monday.
 
In the opener, Sage Harlow and Kamryn Rackley each picked up a pair of hits, while Kady Fryrear, Reese Taylor, Gracie Ore, and Ananda Garrison each added one.
 
Emily Simmons got the start and tossed a complete game, allowing a run on five hits over six innings with three strikeouts in the loss.
 
An RBI triple in the first for the Golden Suns would provide all the scoring in the contest, while SE would strand runners at third in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings.
 
In the nightcap, Ore and Channing Sarver would each pick up a pair of hits, while Rackley and Bailey Beard each had a hit.
 
Beard and Sabetha Sands would each drive in a run.
 
Amberlyn Walsworth got the start and tossed 3.2 innings, allowing five runs, only one of them earned, on seven hits with one strikeout.
 
Simmons would come on in relief and toss 2.1 innings and allow two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
 
ATU would score on an error in the first to take a 1-0 lead, but Sands would sacrifice home Taylor in the fourth with Beard collecting an RBI single later in the inning to give SE a 2-1 lead.
 
The Suns would follow with four runs in the fourth and two in the sixth inning to take a 7-2 lead which would end up as the final.
