Savage Storm Women Topple HU, 62-49

DURANT, Okla. – Three Southeastern players scored in double-figures and the Savage Storm defense held the league's top-scoring team to just 49 points en route to a 62-49 victory on Thursday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
 
The win lifts SE to 10-5 overall on the year and 7-2 in Great American Conference play heading into Saturday afternoon's 1 p.m. matchup with Arkansas Tech back in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
 
The Storm are also the first GAC team to hand the Bisons a loss, dropping the league leader to 8-1 in conference play and 12-3 overall.
 
Kenzli Warden paced Southeastern on offense with 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting while adding four rebounds an assist and a steal.
 
Holli Lindley was next in line with 17 points, going 7-of-10 from the field and hitting a pair of threes, while also completing the triple double with a game-high 13 rebounds and posting four blocked shots.
 
Ashton Hackler would added a double-digit effort off the bench, going 5-for-5 for 11 points.
 
Stevie Stinchcomb finished with seven points and handed out four assists, while Abbie Barr dished out a game-high seven assists and chipped in five points.
 
Lindley's 13 re bounds led the Storm on their way to a 41-to-35 edge on the boards, while holding the Bisons to 29.5 percent shooting overall and just 13.3 percent from beyond the arc.
 
The teams played evenly throughout the first half with the teams trading buckets back-and-forth in the first quarter until HU built a three-point lead in the final minute, the largest by either team.
 
It did not last long though as Lindley would drain a buzzer beater to knot the game at 16-16 at the first quarter break.
 
The second quarter saw both teams cold from the field, with SE hitting 23.1 percent while holding the Bisons to 13.3 percent and the teams matched each other with six points apiece to play to a 22-22 tie at the halftime break.
 
The Storm would score the first seven points of the third quarter, five of them from Lindley, pushing out to a 29-22 lead by the 8:18 mark of the quarter.
 
HU would narrow the deficit to 29-26 by the 5:28 mark, but the Storm would use a 11-6 run over the final five minutes to take a 40-32 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
 
SE scored the first four points of the final frame to take a 44-32 lead early, and by the 5:53 mark had extended that lead to 50-34 following a Stinchcomb bucket.
 
Harding would chip away at the Storm advantage, getting to within seven points with 4:06 to play, but a Warden jumper would kick off a 10-4 run to end the game, preserving the 62-49 Southeastern victory.
