WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern closed out its final road game of the season with a four-set battle at Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Savage Storm opened the match by winning the first set, but the Bulldogs came roaring back to win the next three.
Alaina Armstrong and
Alexis Williams led the SE attack with ten kills each, while Williams attacked at a .320 clip. Pulling the strings for the offense,
Jasmin Dion passed around 35 assists and added 17 digs for a double-double.
Merrick Hammel paced the back row of the lineup with 25 digs, while Armstrong notched 17 for a double-double.
Southeastern (9-18, 4-11 GAC) returns home for Senior Night on Thursday, Nov. 13, against Southern Nazarene in the final home match of the season.
SET ONE
Southeastern opened the scoring with a 3-1 lead and traded a run of scores with the Bulldogs, holding a 7-6 edge. The Storm continued to lead through Armstrong, who slammed down back-to-back kills on a 3-0 burst, and the blue and gold stayed hot, rattling off five consecutive points to extend the gap to 19-15.
However, SWOSU quickly replied with a flurry of scores to tie the set 19-all, but the Storm picked up the pace again to build a 4-0 run to go back in front 23-19.
Maci Morrison and Armstrong would combine for the final two kills to hold off a late Bulldog charge to win 25-23.
SET TWO
SWOSU jumped out to a 6-3 lead to start the set, but the Storm were quick to answer with a 5-1 run to tie the set 8-all. The Bulldogs picked up the pace again, building a 13-9 lead, which soon grew to 22-13 moments later. Southwestern remained in control for the final six rallies of the frame for a 25-16 victory.
SET THREE
Southeastern and Southwestern went point for point to begin the third frame with the score tied 7-7. The Storm broke the deadlock on a 3-0 run to take a 10-8 lead before the Bulldogs flipped the edge back in their favor 15-12. From there, SWOSU grabbed control of the set on a 6-0 run to jump ahead 21-13 and later closed out the set with a 25-14 win.
SET FOUR
The two sides matched each other through the opening exchanges, tied 3-3, but it would be all SWOSU after that, as the Bulldogs raced out to a 14-7 lead. The hosts continued to add to their lead, stretching it to 20-8, and they stayed in control to win the final frame 25-1
