SE Falls in Game Two of Minnesota Road Trip

WINONA, Minn. – Tori Kilburn scored 23 points, all in the second half, to lead all scorers but it was not enough to survive a slow start as Southeastern stumbled in game two of its trip to Winona, Minn., with an 81-63 loss to Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday afternoon.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 0-2 to open the season heading into the team's home opener on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
 
Kilburn's 23 points led all scorers as she finished 7-of-9 overall from the floor and 9-of-9 from the free throw line while adding three assists and two blocked shots.
 
Kenzli Warden added 14 in the effort, while Akiera Hawk chipped in eight.
 
Warden led all rebounders in the game with seven boards, while Mackenzie Espinosa was next in line with four.
 
The Storm got off to a slow start in the opening frame as UMD reeled off an 8-2 run to open play.
 
The Storm answered and eventually took an 11-10 lead on a Barr three with 6:09 to play in the period, but The Bulldogs closed the first frame on a 15-0 run to make the score 25-11 at the end of one.
 
SE closed the deficit to 11 points with just under seven minutes to go in the half on a pair of Warden free throws, but UMD put together another run to pull out to a 47-27 lead at the half.
 
Kilburn put up 10 points in the third quarter, but the Storm was unable to close the gap and headed to the final frame trailing 64-37.
 
Kilburn added 13 more points in the fourth quarter on 5-of-5 shooting overall and 3-if-3 at the line.
 
SE outscored UMD 26-17 over the final 10 minutes to close the final score to 81-63.
