WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State drops to 7-11 in the GAC standings and 9-15 overall with a road defeat to Southwestern Oklahoma State 85-75 in the Pioneer Event Center.
The Savage Storm shot 48.3 percent (29-60) from the field and 29.2 percent (7-24) from beyond the arc for the game. SWOSU converted 23 of its 30 attempts at the foul line and won the turnover battle 8-to-13.
SE had four players reach double-digit points, led by
Santiago Camacho Gomez with 18.
Chandler Dickinson chipped in 15 and tied for a team-high nine rebounds with
Robert Briley.
Landon Condiff and
DJ Dill both tallied 14 points, while Condiff knocked down four triples on 40.0 percent shooting from deep.
The Storm led 3-1 in the first minute of action, thanks to a triple from Dickinson, but the Bulldogs soon let it fly from deep to grab a 9-5 advantage. Southeastern trimmed the gap to one through a three-pointer by Condiff, and back-to-back baskets by Dickinson and Dill kept the blue and gold within one, 15-14. From there, SWOSU quickly rattled off seven straight points over the next minute to grow a seven-point gap, 22-14.
The next four minutes ran through Camacho Gomez, who tallied eight of the 11 points scored by SE during the stretch to help Southeastern cut into the SWOSU lead, 28-25. However, the Bulldogs put their foot on the gas and built an 8-0 run to grow their advantage to double figures, and minutes later, they took their largest lead of the game, 46-31. Southeastern went into the break down 48-36 after Condiff knocked down his second triple of the game with 1:06 remaining.
Southeastern and Southwestern went point for point in the first five minutes of the second half, and the Storm began to reel in the Bulldogs on 8-0 run. Condiff kicked started the run with a three-pointer, and Dickinson capped it off with a triple to cut the gap to 54-48. SWOSU replied with a burst of points of its own, building a 7-0 run to stretch its lead back to double digits, 63-50.
SWOSU continued to hold the gap over the blue and gold for the next four and half minutes before SE connected from deep twice from Condiff and Dill to trim the SWOSU edge to single digits. Williams combined with Camacho Gomez to make it an eight-point game with a minute left, but the Storm would run out of time as Southwestern held on for the win.
Southeastern (9-15, 7-11) stays on the road with a final trip to the Natural State on Thursday night for a showdown with Arkansas Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 20.
