DURANT, Okla. –
Caitlin Kobiske put up a game-high 21 points but it was not enough to lift Southeastern as the Savage Storm dropped its Senior Night home finale to Oklahoma Baptist 85-63 on Thursday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 18-9 overall on the season and 15-6 in Great American Conference pay, moving into a tie for third place with OBU heading into the regular season finale at Northwestern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. in Alva, Okla., on Saturday March 1.
Â
Kobiske finished the contest with 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting, hitting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Â
Kenzli Warden was next in line with 14 points, going 10-of-11 at the free throw line, while
Holli Lindley finished with 10.
Â
Warden led the Storm on the boards with seven, while Kobiske hauled in six and Lindley pulled down five.
Â
OBU got on the board first and held the lead through the first five minutes of the opening quarter before a Kobiske layup at the 4:51 mark knotted the game at 6-6, triggering a quick 6-0m run capped by a Hackler jumper to take a 10-6 lead with 3:48 to play in the frame.
Â
The Bison closed to within two points, but the Storm answered and stretched its lead to 13-8 and led by five still on an
Akiera Hawk bucket with 40 seconds to play, ultimately taking a 15-12 lead into the first quarter break.
Â
OBU scored the first 16 points of the second quarter before Warden connected on a pair of free throws, closing the gap to 28-17 with 3:47 to go in the half.
Â
The Storm narrowed the difference to 10 points on a Hackler three with 1:27 to apply in the quarter, and a Kobiske three got SE within single digits at 37-28, but the Bison hit the final bucket of the half and Southeastern trailed 39-28 at the halftime break.
Â
The Bison stretched their lead to 19 points early in the third quarter, but a Kobiske three would end the run and SE closed the gap to 51-38 on a Lindley three with 5:30 to play in the frame.
Â
The OBU lead reached 19 points with 3:13 to play in the third quarter, but a pair of Warden free throws kicked off a 10-0 run to close the quarter capped by a Kobiske three, making the score 58-49 heading to the fourth quarter.
Â
The third quarter deficit was as close as SE would get however, as the Bison opened with a three and by the midway point of the fourth quarter had built its lead back to 19 points and would go on to take the contest 85-63..
