DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State wraps up the week 2-0 after defeating Southern Arkansas at home 87-82 to improve to 8-14 overall and 6-10 in the GAC.
The Savage Storm shot 46.0 percent (29-63) from the field and went 9-of-21 from the three-point line. SE converted 20 shots at the foul line in 22 trips and tallied 35 rebounds while winning the turnover battle 3-to-8.
SE saw double-digit points from four players, including a career-high 14 by
Jalen Williams.
Landon Condiff led the scoring with 21 points, while
Chandler Dickinson and
Santiago Camacho Gomez had 17 and 10, respectively.
Robert Briley paced the side at the glass, pulling down 12 rebounds, and would add nine points to his totals.
Southern Arkansas opened the scoring, and Southeastern would soon see its first lead of the game after back-to-back baskets from Condiff and
Ethan Wilkerson, 8-7, though a quick burst of points by the Muleriders pushed the visitors back on top. SE would tie the 14-all on a
Tyler Long three-pointer, which led to two more triples falling from Dickinson, as the blue and gold went ahead 24-20 on a 10-2 run.
The visitors stayed close to the Storm, which allowed them to take the lead again with 2:12 remaining. However, the hot hand of Dickinson drained a third triple of the half, and Condiff would connect from deep moments later for the team's fifth three-pointer to help Southeastern take a 38-34 lead into the halftime break.
Briley provided Southeastern with its first five points of the second half after knocking down his first three-pointer of the game. SE continued to attack the perimeter through Conidff, and baskets from Briley and Dickinson extended the Storm's lead to 50-42. Southern Arkansas continued to battle and eventually closed the gap to one point, but SE picked up the pace again, with Condiff draining another three-pointer to help push the gap to 63-57.
SE continued to hold its lead over the next four minutes, but an 8-0 run by the Muleriders quickly flipped the lead back in their favor 73-69. A layup from Williams made a two-point game, and the Storm would build an 11-0 run across the next three minutes to jump back in front 82-75. Southeastern closed out the game at the foul line to secure the 87-82 win over Southern Arkansas.
Southeastern (8-14, 6-10) gets set to host rivals East Central on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Bloomer Sullivan Arena for the second meeting this season.
