SE Rallies to Earn Saturday Split vs. SNU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern compiled 22 hits over two games and rallied in the series finale to earn a Saturday split, dropping game one 11-6 before picking up an 11-10 win in the finale over Southern Nazarene at Mike Metheny Field.
 
The split moves the Savage Storm to 7-10 overall on the season and 6-3 in Great American Conference play.
 
In the opener, Mitchell, Colton Sagely, Chase Keeton, and Alex Showalter each collected two hits, while Ryan Kirk, Payton Poole, and Brady Evans each added one.
 
Sagely and Showalter each posted three RBI, while Kirk drove in two, with Mitchell and Keeton adding one each.
 
Keeton and Showalter each homered, while Keeton added a triple, with Kirk and Sagely each doubling.
 
Brock Zimmer got the start and tossed three innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on one hit with four walks allowed.
 
Carson Abbott allowed two runs on no hits in an inning of work, followed by Brayden Phelps.
 
Gabe Massey tossed two innings and was tagged for three runs on two hits, but was able to pick up the win.
 
Jordan brown closed the contest, striking out two in the bottom of the seventh to earn his first save of the year.
 
A two-run homer from Showalter in the second inning put the Storm on the board first, but SNU answered with four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-2 lead.
 
SE rallied to take the lead again in the fourth, scoring on a Sagely RBI double, a wild pitch and a Showalter sac fly to go ahead 5-4.
 
SNU again answered, putting up three in the fifth and three more in the sixth, taking a 10-5 lead midway through six innings.
 
Keeton got Southeastern's rally moving in the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer.
 
Kirk doubled home Thorp and Showalter to close the gap to 10-8, followed by an RBI single by Mitchell to get within one run.
 
Sagely followed with a two-run single, giving the Storm an 11-10 lead which would hold up as the final score.
 
 
In game one, Wesley Mitchell went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Ryan Kirk and Austin Thorp each added two hits.
 
Payton Poole, Carter Olson, Coby Grimsley, and Alex Showalter each picked up a hit.
 
Kirk plated four RBI in the contest, while Grimsley and Showalter added an RBI each.
 
Michael White got the start and allowed three runs, only one earned, on four hits but would take the loss in two innings of work.
 
Colton Clawson, Austin Hillebrandt, Tristan Mills, Parker Pecina and Tanner Carter each appeared in the contest, with every pitcher except Carter allowing at least one run.
 
SNU got on the board with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first and tacked on a run in the second to take a 3-0 lead.
 
Both teams were scoreless over the third and fourth, but the Crimson Storm connected on a solo home to open the top of the fifth and push its lead to 4-0.
 
The lead would stretch to 8-0 later in the inning following an RBI single and a three-run homer to push the advantage to 8-0 midway through the fifth.
 
The Crimson Storm tacked on another run in the top of the sixth inning, but the Storm would finally get on the board in the bottom of the seventh, first with Showalter driving in Mitchell, and following an Austin Thorp walk, Kirk connected on a grand slam to cut the deficit to 9-5 through seven innings.
 
SNU followed with a run in the top of the eighth and Grimsley doubled home Mitchell in the bottom of the eighth to make the score 10-6 with one to play.
 
The Crimson Storm added a run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth and that would make the final score 11-6.
