DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State falls in its two games with Cameron on Tuesday from the Southeastern Softball Field.
Late runs proved the difference maker in game one, as SE saw the Aggies score six in the final three frames. In the second contest, SE and CU battled back and forth, and the high-scoring game went the way of the visitors, with Cameron winning 16-11.
Southeastern (14-15 7-7 GAC) hits the road for the next round of GAC action as they head to Searcy to take on No. 13 Harding. The series opener between the Savage Storm and Bisons is a doubleheader on Friday, Mar. 21, starting at 4 p.m.
GAME ONE: CU 8, SE 3
The Aggies were quick to get on the board in the top of the first, scoring a pair of runs to take the lead 2-0. Southeastern replied in the next frame, scoring three runs to flip the lead in its favor 3-2. Back-to-back singles by
Susan Edwards and
Ryley Lance brought
Kennedy Morgan to the plate, who blasted a three-run home run to left field to give SE the lead.
Both sides posted scoreless innings in the third and fourth, but the Aggies regained the edge again in the top of the fifth with a two-run frame to go ahead 5-2. After recording a single hit in the third, Southeastern was kept in check at the plate from there, being held without a hit for the next four frames. During this stretch, Cameron added a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to win 8-3.
GAME TWO:
Southeastern and Cameron traded runs in the bottom of the first and at the top of the second, but the Storm broke things open in the bottom half of the second, scoring four runs. Hits by
Jazzy Rios and Morgan set up an RBI single by
Channing Sarver for the first run scored, and the next score came on the following at-bat on a ground out by
Sabetha Sands.
Sage Harlow brought in the next two runs on a two-run home run to make it 5-1.
The Aggies threatened to add to their score in the third with runners on first and second and no outs, but starting pitcher
Emily Simmons worked out of the jam and stranded the pair of runners. In the Storm's half of the third, the blue and gold got a lead-off single by E. Simmons, who eventually scored on a hit to right center field by Morgan to extend the lead.
SE continued to add to its advantage with bases the bases in the bottom of the fourth and walked in one run before the final out to stretch the gap to 7-1. However, Camron responded with a big inning in the top of the fifth, plating eight runs to take the lead 9-7. SE replied, adding a crooked number of its own in its half of the fifth with a two-run blast by Sands to tie it 9-all.
The back-and-forth game swung back in favor of the Aggies, who put a seven-spot in the top of the sixth to push back in front 16-9. Southeastern scored two more runs in the seventh before the final out of the game, as E. Simmons hit a two-run shot to make it 16-11.
Harlow led the lineup with three hits and two RBIs, while
